The Kane District

Thomas Q. Strandburg was born in Warren, PA in 1962. The eldest of five children, he graduated from Warren Area High School in 1980. Tom received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State University (University Park, PA) in 1984 and earned his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in 1987.

Ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1986, he was appointed to the West Greene Charge (Rogersville, Valley Chapel, & Bethany churches) upon graduation from seminary. He was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1989.

Tom has also served congregations in Bedford County (Alum Bank), and in the City of Greensburg (Otterbein) before being appointed to the Superintendency in 2008.

Tom has been active in leadership of the United Methodist Church in Western Pennsylvania, at the both the district and conference levels. He has served as a member of the Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry since the year 2000, and was elected to serve a four-year term as Secretary of the Board in 2004. He has served as a member of his District Committees on Ordained Ministry since 1996, and as chairperson of the Greensburg District Committee. As a part of our Believe Again Plan for Ministry, Tom served as a member of the Clergy Study Team. He has served on the board of directors for several social service agencies, including A.C.T.S. of Greene County, LOVEinc of Bedford County, and Connect, Inc. (Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services).

Tom has served as a mentor in the United Methodist clergy candidacy process since 1993, and has been privileged to work with many new clergy since that time.

Married to the former Kathryn A. Naumann in 1985, he and Kathy are the parents of two children: a daughter, Amy (17), and a son, Joel (15). Their family enjoys spending time together, travel, and outdoor activities such as camping and fishing. Joel is the avid hunter in the family. Both children enjoy music, with Amy playing flute and piccolo, and Joel playing trumpet and French horn. The Strandburg household is made complete by the presence of two beloved cats – Misty and Twilight.
